Most Often Asked Questions About Spirit Guides
/As a spirit guide medium, it’s natural that I am asked tons of questions about spirit guides. These are the top most often-asked questions I receive.
Do I have more than one spirit guide?
Yes. Most people have at least three spirit guides. There is always at least one primary guide who takes the lead and has been with you since you were born. Sometimes two or more guides will be primary guides and work in unison, but it’s often the case that there is one lead guide with two or more accompanying guides. The setup of your guide team is what you picked out in agreement with them when you planned out your current incarnation. Some guides come in and out of your life for different reasons — you usually call these teacher and/or helper guides. People who have a large team of guides are usually those who work extensively in the public eye or need to hold a lot of energy like a spiritual practitioner.
What is the difference between spirit guides and guardian angels?
Many people believe angels are very different than spirit guides. After more than 25 years of connecting to spirit, I’ve learned the differences between the two are actually very small. In fact, my spirit guide Z has said, “All angels are spirit guides, but not all spirit guides will identify as angels.” Guardian angels do just that — they guard your energy and usually stand right behind you with their hands on your shoulders. They also help balance your energy. Some angels have never incarnated as a human, preferring to assist humanity in other ways. While other angels do enjoy incarnating and are often called earth angels.
Are there different types of spirit guides?
Yes, so many! You can have many types of different guides at any one time on your spirit team. Primary life guides are with you from birth to death and carry with them your soul blueprint — your plan for your current incarnation. Teacher/helper guides like to come in for a specific reason — perhaps you need help getting through school or need help starting a new career or business — these guides show up to assist your energy through your project or to help with a challenge you are facing in your life. Joy guides will uplift you and make you laugh just when you need it. We can have quite the diverse team of spirit guides supporting us in our lives!
Is my crossed-over loved one my spirit guide?
Sometimes your loved ones will become a part of your spirit team after they’ve crossed over. This is because they desire to stay close by your side and continue encouraging you in life OR to make up for what they lacked to give you in life. In the latter case, they are healing their karma by helping you. You continue to heal and balance your soul energy even in the afterlife.
Do spirit guides ever get tired of me or their job?
No, but they do get frustrated — not at you, but at themselves or the situation you or they are experiencing. Usually, it’s because some block in communication prohibits you from receiving their messages and intuitive nudges. They are always looking for ways to improve their communication standards.
What does it take to be a spirit guide?
My spirit team tells me it takes: “A big dose of perseverance. And faith. And servitude. That’s about it in a nutshell. Extensive training. Loss of ego. A sense of humor.” I think that sounds about right. You have to want to be a spirit guide to do the job. Not all souls who are asked say yes, and there is no pressure to say yes. Some souls wait a long time before becoming a guide. It’s not an easy job!

When we go seeking for love, it often escapes us. We may grasp onto it, holding it tight for a second, and then it flits away as fast as it came. Don’t hold on so tight, the guides say. There is so much love that surrounds us. If we could only open our hearts and receive this love, we wouldn’t need to strive so hard to obtain it.
